Gift boxes are quoted by inner dimensions (the space your product actually sits in), measured as length × width × height in centimetres. For most retail and jewelry items a box between 8×5×3 cm and 25×15×9 cm covers it; anything larger moves into gift-set or hamper territory. Below is the standard size range wholesale buyers use, plus the exact inner sizes we keep in stock.
How gift box sizes are measured
Always confirm whether a supplier quotes inner or outer dimensions. The outer size includes the board thickness and wrap, so it is typically 3–6 mm larger on each axis. For rigid (greyboard) boxes the wall is thicker — roughly 1.5–2.5 mm per side — so the gap between inner and outer is bigger than on folding cartons. Your product fits the inner dimension; the shipping carton is built around the outer dimension.
- Length (L) × width (W) × height (H), always in that order, measured inside the base.
- Height is measured on the base for lid-and-base boxes (the lid adds height on top).
- Drawer/sleeve boxes: the quoted size is the inner tray the product slides into.
- Add room for your insert, foam or satin lining — do not size to the bare product.
Measure your product, not a competitor’s box
Send your product’s dimensions (or a sample) and we recommend the box. A box that is 5–10 mm larger than the product on each axis gives room for padding and a premium feel; a box that is too tight tears at the corners during packing.

How to pick the right size for your product
- Measure the product at its widest point, including any cap, lid or hangtag.
- Add the insert: foam, satin pillow, blister or shredded fill each take 5–15 mm.
- Allow 2–3 mm clearance so the product slides in without forcing the board.
- Check the height with the lid on — lid-and-base lids sit over the base, not flush.
- For sets, mock the bundle together first; combined height is what determines the box.
