Organza bags are the highest-volume sheer drawstring pouch in gift and jewellery packaging: cheap, light, fast to ship, and transparent enough that the product inside stays visible. If you are buying organza bags wholesale for a boutique, jewellery brand, favour order or e-commerce store, the decisions that actually separate a good batch from a flimsy one are the fabric weight and yarn density (often mis-sold as GSM), the size grid, the drawstring cord and edge finish, and the print method for custom logos. What organza bags are made of

Organza is a sheer, crisp plain-weave fabric made with highly twisted filament yarns. Historically it was silk; today almost every wholesale organza bag is woven from polyester filament, which gives the same sheen and stiffness at a fraction of the cost with better washability and colour consistency. Genuine silk organza bags exist but sit at a luxury price point and are typically a custom-run item rather than stock.

• Polyester organza: the standard for wholesale pouches. Bright sheen, holds its shape, takes hot-foil stamping well, and meets REACH/azo requirements when supplied with test reports.
• Nylon organza: slightly softer and more heat-sensitive; uncommon in gift packaging because it yellows earlier and foils less cleanly.
• Silk organza: premium and custom-only; mainly for high-end jewellery or heritage brands.

GSM, yarn density and why organza is quoted differently

GSM (grams per square metre) measures fabric weight, and buyers used to paper bags and cotton totes often ask for it on organza. The honest answer is that GSM is a blunt instrument here: bag-grade polyester organza is extremely light, typically landing around 25–60 g/m², and differences of a few grams barely change the hand-feel. Factories therefore quote the yarn itself — the filament denier (50D, 75D, 100D) and the warp/weft density (threads per inch or cm) — because those two numbers predict stiffness and sheerness far better than a weight figure.

Two practical checks when comparing samples: hold the pouch against a printed page — with mid-grade organza you should see the text shape but not read it comfortably; and pull the cord in one sharp motion — dense, well-woven fabric gathers evenly without warping, while underweight fabric twists and shows gaps between yarns. If a supplier quotes only an impressive-sounding GSM with no denier or density, ask for the mill spec sheet; weight on its own is easy to dress up.

Organza bag sizes: the standard wholesale grid

Stock organza drawstring bags run on a near-universal size grid across Chinese packaging factories, quoted flat as width × length in centimetres. Sticking to this grid means no cutting-form cost and the fastest sampling. Usable length is about 2 cm less than stated once the drawstring channel gathers.

In-stock coverage varies by style: our solid organza line and the foil-coral style run all seven to eight tiers from 7×9 cm through 20×30 cm, while the foil rose/heart style concentrates on the favour and jewellery sizes from 7×9 cm to 17×23 cm, where that pattern actually sells.

Drawstring cord and edge options

The cord is part of the product, not an afterthought — it controls how the pouch opens on a counter or in an unboxing video, and it is one of the cheapest ways to change the perceived grade. Three decisions matter: cord material, colour treatment, and the edge finish.

1. Satin cord (standard): smooth polyester cord in a matching or contrast colour. Most stock organza bags use a single continuous cord threaded through the channel with two pull ends.
2. Satin ribbon drawstring (upgrade): a narrow satin ribbon replaces the cord, lying flatter and looking more premium at jewellery retail. Common on bridal and boutique lines.
3. Contrast vs matching colour: a contrasting overlocked edge and cord (gold edge on ivory, black on white) is the classic gift look; tone-on-tone reads more minimalist and modern.
4. Edge construction: serged/overlocked edges in colour are standard on retail-grade bags; plain heat-cut edges are cheaper and can feel scratchy — worth checking on samples.
5. Metal aglets or cord toggles: optional hardware upgrades for custom runs; they raise the MOQ but make the pull feel deliberately designed.

Colours, foil patterns and finishes

Wholesale organza bags come in two finish families. Solid-colour organza is the workhorse: white, black, ivory, blush, burgundy, navy and jewel tones are standard stock colours, with white and ivory moving fastest for jewellery. Patterned organza uses hot-foil stamping on the sheer base — gold and rose-gold roses, hearts, coral and confetti motifs are proven favour patterns, especially around Valentine's Day and the winter holidays.

• Solid organza: widest size range, lowest cost per piece, easiest to co-brand.
• Foil-patterned organza: higher perceived value at favour price points; packed with tissue between layers so the foil cannot catch in transit.
• Custom dyed colours: possible as a production run, but minimums are much higher than stock colours and add dyeing lead time — most brands achieve a custom look with stock fabric plus a foil logo instead.

Sheer woven fabric punishes the wrong print method. Standard screen printing sits on the surface of such a light, open weave and can feel stiff or show through; the method that works cleanly on organza is hot-foil stamping (gold, silver, rose gold and matte tones), which bonds a thin metallic layer to the yarns and matches the existing foil-pattern stock aesthetic. Heat-transfer prints and small sewn woven labels are the alternatives when a full-colour logo is required.

Artwork should be a vector file with the logo sized to the pouch face — roughly 3×3 cm on mini bags up to 6×6 cm on XL — as fine lines below about 0.4 mm do not stamp reliably on open weave. A foil proof is produced before bulk so density and coverage can be checked on the actual fabric colour.

MOQ, lead times and stock vs custom

Organza is one of the lowest-MOQ custom packaging categories because stock bags are pre-made and only the decoration is custom.

• Stock solid or foil-pattern bags: orderable from 50 pieces, in 50- or 100-piece increments depending on style; mixed sizes and colours can share one order.
• Custom foil logo on stock bags: typically from about 500 pieces per size/colourway, with a 5–7 day white sample or printed proof before bulk.
• Custom fabric colour or custom-cut size: roughly 500–1,000 pieces minimum to cover dyeing or the cutting form.
• Lead time: stock styles normally dispatch within days; custom-foil orders run about 12–20 working days after proof approval, plus courier (3–5 days) or sea freight for bulk.

Packing, freight and wholesale quality checks

Organza bags ship flat in poly bundles of 50 or 100. A standard 60×40×40 cm export carton holds roughly 4,000–8,000 mini (7×9 cm) pouches versus 800–1,200 of the 20×30 cm size, and a carton of 5,000 mini organza bags weighs only about 12–18 kg — freight per piece is negligible, which is why favours and free-gift programs run on them.

• Pull every cord on the sample batch: both ends must move freely and close the top evenly without snagging inside the channel.
• Check stitch density at the channel and bottom seam; skipped stitches are the most common defect on cheap runs.
• Verify the overlocked edge colour matches batch to batch — aniline dye lots shift, and ivory vs cream is visible side by side on a retail shelf.
• For foil styles, rub the print firmly ten times on white fabric; properly bonded foil leaves no trace.
• Request the textile test report (azo dyes / REACH) with the first order if the pouches go to the EU or UK; food-use orders (candy in direct contact) need a food-grade spec, so favours are normally individually wrapped first.
