Custom Printed Ribbon: Widths, Materials and Print Methods

How to choose custom logo ribbon for wholesale packaging — satin vs organza vs metallic, the standard 6/10/15/25/40 mm widths, roll lengths, and screen print vs foil vs embossing.

Printed ribbon is the lowest-MOQ, highest-visibility way to put a logo on packaging: a custom satin ribbon starts from a single 91 m roll in one colour. The three decisions that matter are width (6–40 mm), material (satin, organza or metallic) and print method (screen print, foil stamping or embossing). This guide maps each choice to the job it does, using the widths and rolls we keep in stock.

Ribbon widths: which size for which job

Width is measured across the ribbon in millimetres. Match it to the package: narrow ribbon reads delicate on small boxes, wide ribbon carries a large bow and a readable logo.

WidthBest forTypical use
6 mmTiny tags, favour bagsJewelry tags, wedding favours, fine wrapping
10 mmSmall boxes, slim bowsJewelry boxes, candles, cookie packs
15 mmStandard gift wrappingThe versatile default for most retail boxes
25 mmLogo print, statement bowsCustom branded ribbon (our 25 mm × 91 m print line)
40 mmLarge boxes, wreathsBig bows, hampers, floral and event décor

Widths in stock; our satin line runs 80–84 colours, classic red satin spans 3–52 mm.

Default to 15–25 mm

If you are unsure, 15–25 mm double-face satin is the most versatile choice: it ties a full bow, works on most box sizes, and at 25 mm gives enough flat surface for a legible repeated logo.

Satin is supplied on rolls — 22.85 m (25 yards) for plain colour lines and 91 m (100 yards) for the dense double-face and custom print lines; sheer organza runs 45.7 m (50 yards). Plain satin is stocked in 80–84 colours, so most brand colours can be matched without a custom dye lot.

Three ways to put a logo on ribbon

  • Screen printing — a solid, opaque logo in one or more Pantone colours; the standard, most economical custom method on satin.
  • Foil stamping — a metallic gold or silver mark for a premium, reflective finish; popular on jewelry and luxury packaging.
  • Embossing / debossing — a tone-on-tone raised mark with no ink; subtle and elegant, best on dense double-face satin.

The custom print line is 25 mm satin on a 91 m roll, with the logo repeated along the roll so every tied bow carries the brand. One colour starts from a single roll; multiple colours and Pantone matching are quoted on request.

Ordering tips

  1. Estimate usage at roughly 60–90 cm of ribbon per finished bow, depending on box size.
  2. Choose double-face satin if the bow will show both sides; single-face is fine for flat bands and wraps.
  3. Send vector artwork (AI/EPS) for the cleanest print; foil and emboss need solid, bold marks rather than fine lines.
  4. Match ribbon to your boxes and bags — ribbon is commonly consolidated into the same shipment as packaging.

Frequently asked questions

What width ribbon is best for gift boxes?

Small boxes and favour tags suit 6–10 mm; standard gift wrapping uses 15–25 mm; large boxes, wreaths and statement bows use 40 mm. When in doubt, 15–25 mm double-face satin is the most versatile.

What is the MOQ for custom logo-printed ribbon?

Custom printed ribbon starts from a single 91 m roll in one colour on the 25 mm satin line — the lowest-MOQ way to put a logo on packaging. Multiple colours or Pantone matching are quoted per request.

What is the difference between single-face and double-face satin ribbon?

Single-face satin is glossy on one side and matte on the reverse; double-face satin is glossy on both sides with a denser weave. Choose double-face when the ribbon is tied into bows where both sides show.

How long is a roll of ribbon?

Plain satin colour lines come on 22.85 m (25-yard) rolls, the dense double-face and custom print lines on 91 m (100-yard) rolls, and sheer organza on 45.7 m (50-yard) rolls. At roughly 60–90 cm per bow, a 91 m roll finishes around 100–150 boxes.

Can ribbon be printed to match my brand colour?

Plain satin is stocked in 80–84 colours to match most brands without a custom dye lot. For the logo itself, screen printing supports Pantone colours, foil gives a metallic mark, and embossing gives a subtle tone-on-tone finish.
